Logitech to Acquire Astro Gaming

Logitech said Tuesday it would buy San Francisco gaming accessories company Astro Gaming for $85 million in cash. Astro, founded by Jordan Reiss and Brett Lovelady, is best known for audio headsets used by video gamers.

“Together we’ve got gamers covered no matter what platform they play on,” wrote Ujesh Desai, a Logitech vice president, in a blog post.

Logitech, with headquarters in Newark and Lausanne, Switzerland, was founded in 1981. Faced with a shrinking PC market, the company has been expanding its offerings of speakers, keyboards and headphones to attract avid gamers.

The acquisition, expected to close early next month, will expand Logitech’s business in the console gaming market, according to the company.
